Trauma Therapy
in Venice Beach

Parts Work ( i.e. Internal Family Systems (IFS),, Somatic Attachment Therapy, Inner Relationship Focusing (IRF), and approaches inspired by Gabor Maté's Compassionate Inquiry share a common understanding that trauma is not simply an event from the past, but something that can continue to shape thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and nervous system responses in the present. Rather than viewing symptoms such as anxiety, self-criticism, people-pleasing, emotional withdrawal, perfectionism, or other protective behaviors as signs of dysfunction, these approaches see them as adaptive strategies that developed to help a person survive difficult experiences.

Parts Work models propose that we all contain different parts or aspects of ourselves, each serving a purpose, and that healing occurs when we approach these parts with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment. Compassionate Inquiry similarly seeks to uncover the underlying wounds, beliefs, and emotional experiences that drive automatic reactions and coping patterns, helping individuals understand the protective intentions beneath them. Somatic Attachment Therapy emphasizes that trauma is 'held' not only in the mind but also in the body and nervous system, making bodily awareness, regulation, and experiences of safety essential components of healing. Inner Relationship Focusing complements this process by helping individuals develop a compassionate relationship with their inner experience, learning to stay present with emotions, sensations, and felt experiences rather than avoiding or fighting them.

Together, these approaches help individuals understand the origins of their protective patterns, cultivate self-compassion, regulate the nervous system, and reconnect with their innate capacity for healing. The goal is not to erase the past, but to reduce the limiting effects of trauma, cultivate greater internal harmony and self-understanding, and create more freedom, resilience, and choice in how one responds

to life's challenges.
